Where is Punta Gorda?
Punta Gorda is located on the eastern end and the north side of the Island of Roatan, the largest of the Bay Islands, 40 miles north of the mainland of Honduras in the Caribbean Sea.

Things to do?
Punta Gorda is a community of Garifuna, a unique Caribbean culture with its own language and a history that goes back 200 years. Punta Gorda is one of the oldest communities on the island. Tours often include displays of Garifuna music, dancing and jewelry.

How do I get around?
Punta Gorda is 16 miles east of Juan Manuel Gálvez International Airport. A sign will direct you to turn left from the Carretera Principal into the community. Be careful if you rent a car, because the last 6 miles you travel will be rough road with many potholes. The trip from the airport will take around an hour.

Where can I stay?
Home rentals are available in Punta Gorda but are somewhat limited as this is first and foremost a native community. Nearby resorts include Turquoise Bay and Marble Hill.

Where can I eat?
Punta Gorda is the go-to place to experience Garifuna cuisine, a unique Caribbean taste that includes Machuca, which features a sort of dumpling made of plantains, and tapado, a seafood stew. Popular restaurants include Wagundan and Yurumei.
