Starting a Roatan Business
Tourism is the focus of development on the island of Roatan. Roatan is starting to pave roads and streets summer, 2015. The paving project is beginning at the Point of French Harbor.
The Honduran government is generally open to foreign investment, with limited restrictions and performance requirements. Low labor costs, proximity to the U.S. market, and the Caribbean port of Puerto Cortés make Honduras attractive to investors. At the same time, however, Honduras’ mainland investment climate is hampered by high levels of crime, a weak judicial system, corruption, low educational levels, and poor transportation and other infrastructure.
English is the first language of native islanders regardless of race, the mainland is Spanish only.
The United States is Honduras’ most important economic partner, and the government of Honduras continues to strive to improve the investment climate, yet U.S. companies choosing to invest in Honduras continue to face significant challenges. Over 200 U.S. companies operate in Honduras.
