July 9, 2015An Invitation to Lunch
July 16, 2015In Sandy Bay, is referred to in one Tripadvisor review as “A Little Jamaica in Roatan”
“If you are looking for Jamaican, Caribbean or Chinese food – look no further,” writes this satisfied customer. “This place has the best jerk chicken on the island! We had the jerk chicken and also a jerk burger – both were fabulous. Chinese food you say? Well, YES! I had an island style chicken chow mein – not very traditional but the flavors were spot on!”
Blue Parrot’s Facebook page shows countless photos of guests having a lot of fun. It’s that kind of place. The combination of delicious island cuisine and a thriving night life makes for a memorable night out.
Blue Parrot is located on the main highway, just a short drive from the busy tourist centres of West End and West Bay. You will find a fun mix of local expats and tourists enjoying the warm hospitality that Blue Parrot staff offers their guests.
Owner/operator Annie is from Jamaica, as is her chef. This explains the “to die for” jerk chicken, one of my island favorites. Carol is from England and the service she provides is second to none. For us, a trip to West End usually involves a stop at Blue Parrot for the best jerk chicken and coconut rice and beans on the island.
There are plenty of other food choices as well .Coconut shrimp is another favorite, as is the jerk burger.
Appetizers include chicken and shrimp kebabs, chicken fingers, fish fingers, butterfly shrimp, and quesadilles. Salads include grilled or jerk chicken or shrimp salad.
There are many entrée choices including bbq ribs, chicken curry, coconut curry shrimp, burgers, chicken or shrimp chow mein and chicken or shrimp fried rice. There are usually a couple of decadent desserts on the menu as well.
Blue Parrot provides live entertainment by some talented local musicians and there are two dance floors, one inside by the bar and one outside, in the balmy evening air. Karaoke night is another favorite with this crowd.
There is also a pool table, in case you feel like shooting a little pool while you enjoy the music. A local favorite is the LCR game, held each Wednesday night around 7 pm. I haven’t had the pleasure of playing the game yet, but I know that for $3.00 you are in. Every week, I see photos of the winner, his or her shirt stuffed with cash, wearing a huge grin. Who doesn’t like to win a little beer money?
